Job Summary
Developmental Specialist (DS) develops and implements comprehensive, family-centered evaluations, assessments and therapy routines for children in WCEL Early Support Services. Duties include evaluating development levels, creating IFSPs in partnership with families and coordinators, coordinating specialized services in natural environments, involving parents, collaborating with external providers, attending team and planning meetings, maintaining ESIT documentation, and hosting interns or providing job shadowing. Requires a Bachelor's degree in ESCE/related field with preferred Washington teaching certification; valid driver's license and Infant/Toddler CPR; experience with infants/toddlers with special health care needs. Location primarily at WCEL Whatcom County sites; in-person role.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Special Education (ESCE) or Inclusive Early Childhood Education OR Graduation from an accredited program for Education for Students/Children who are Blind or have Low Vision (BLV), Education of Students/Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH), and/or Education for Students/Children who are DeafBlind (DB).
- Graduation in ECSE adjacent or related field (e.g., Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Human Development, or Special Education).
- Preferred: State of Washington Teaching Certificate, with an endorsement in special education or early childhood special education that is active and in good standing.
- State of Washington driver's license and reliable, insured vehicle.
- Successful completion and maintenance of Infant/Toddler CPR class (can be completed post-hire).
- Experience with infants and toddlers with special health care needs, and their families.
