Development & Research Engineering Specialist

Lead and manage multi-function engineering projects in ferrous metallurgy, including development and application of alloy and processing combinations to meet component performance and cost targets. Drive research on new cast and wrought alloy development, foundry processes, and heat treatments; establish success criteria with internal clients; identify team members; and deliver project milestones. Provide technical expertise in metallurgical specifications and standards; collaborate with external labs and universities for research and test support. Candidate should have strong project leadership, data analysis, and communication skills, with broad knowledge of casting operations, ferrous alloys and microstructures, heat treating procedures, and material-validation approaches; familiarity with modeling tools (ThermoCalc, JMatPro) and mechanical testing. Degree requirement: B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering; advanced engineering degree preferred. This position is located onsite at Caterpillar’s US Technical Center in Mossville, IL, requiring five days per week onsite; relocation is available and visa sponsorship is not available.
