Job Summary
Development Manager for California remote-based utility-scale renewable energy projects, leading land-use permitting efforts (CEQA/NEPA, CEC opt-in) and coordinating cross-functional teams (real estate, interconnection, engineering, finance, construction) to integrate permitting strategies into project execution. Responsible for developing permitting strategies, managing agency/stakeholder relationships, monitoring progress, managing external consultants, budgeting, and communicating permitting risks and timelines to senior leadership. Requires strong stakeholder engagement, ability to travel in California, and effective cross-functional leadership to drive projects from early development through pre-construction.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years working at a developer managing California development projects in a planning, environmental, legal, financial, or real estate capacity
- Demonstrated experience supporting or leading CEQA (or NEPA) processes
- Strong understanding of California land use permitting frameworks and regulatory processes
- Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
- Experience negotiating agreements and managing relationships with landowners, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders
- Self-motivated, capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical and public-facing materials
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective
- Ability to travel throughout California to meet with agency staff and attend community events across various jurisdictions
- Safe driving record and a valid driver’s license
