Job Summary
Development Architect in SAP's CTO organization, shaping the future of enterprise data, analytics, and AI. Serve as a key leader defining the architectural standards and roadmap for integrating Apache Iceberg open table formats with SAP Data & Analytics products, driving Iceberg-backed Lakehouse strategies, and enabling interoperability across SAP HANA, Datasphere, and Analytics Cloud to support BI, scalable ML, and Generative AI workloads. Responsibilities include bridging Iceberg with SAP data products, designing open catalog architectures using Iceberg REST Catalog and Apache Polaris, evaluating multi-engine integrations (Snowflake, Databricks, Dremio, Trino), guiding governance, RBAC, data lineage, and global compliance, and producing ADRs and PoCs to validate strategic bets. Strong focus on enterprise-scale data architecture, cloud/on-prem integration, and translating technical concepts for executive audiences.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or software engineering
- at least 3+ years in a strategic, enterprise-wide architectural role (OCTO or Enterprise Architecture experience is highly preferred)
- deep architectural experience with SAP HANA, SAP Datasphere, and SAP Analytics Cloud (Nice to Have)
- Deep Lakehouse Expertise with Data Lakehouse paradigms and compute engines (Spark, Trino, Flink); experience with Databricks and Snowflake is a plus
- Hands-on understanding of Apache Iceberg (internal mechanics, manifest files, snapshot isolation, optimization like compaction/Z-ordering)
- Proven understanding of metadata catalogs, Iceberg REST catalog API, Apache Polaris or Nessie
- Understanding of how data architecture impacts AI/ML pipelines, MLOps, vector databases, and LLM fine-tuning/RAG architectures
- Experience dealing with enterprise landscapes (cloud networking, IAM integration, GDPR/CCPA, integrating on-prem to cloud)
- Excellent ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value for executives and engineers
