Job Summary
Monitor clients on the detox unit to ensure safety and well-being while completing vitals, COWS, and CIWA assessments in state and internal EHR systems. Assist with daily client needs including meals, hygiene, and room preparation, and conduct hourly physical rounds and random room searches. Document observations, client interactions, and incidents in staff logs and facility forms, ensuring accurate medication administration and inventory checks. Follow emergency procedures for medical or behavioral crises and communicate concerns to nursing staff promptly. Perform urine screenings, chart audits, and medication counts in compliance with licensing standards. Complete required online and in-person trainings and attend staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or Certified Nurse Assistant program
- Knowledge regarding signs and symptoms of withdrawal from drugs and/or alcohol
- Proficient in common office technology tools, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams
- Knowledge regarding signs that a client appears drowsy or sedated due to medication(s)
- Ability to monitor and manage the care of detox clients
- Ability to gather and document client health histories and current medical symptoms
- Observe and document administration of medications in clients eMar
- Strong, observation, verbal, and written communication abilities
- Ability to follow medical and program protocols
- Respects confidentiality always
- Follows HIPAA and CFR 42 guidelines for disclosing information
- Adheres to the agency's compliance plan, code of conduct, and the Nexus policies & procedures
- Treats all clients, visitors, and co-workers with dignity and respect
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities with neatness, accuracy, and a degree of excellence, promptly
- Ability to work at the maximum capacity of all required expectations
- Occasionally required to stand; walk; navigate stairs, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Close vision and distance vision
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or Certified Nurse Assistant program
- Experience in substance abuse treatment, behavioral health, healthcare, or residential care
- Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders or withdrawal symptoms
