Job Summary
Position oversees the Detentions division within the Sheriff’s Office, directing Detentions, Court Security, and Inmate Transports; responsible for strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, and coordination with other divisions and external agencies. Leads and evaluates Detentions staff including Sergeants, Corporals, Deputies, and Court Security Deputies; manages division goals, priorities, and programs, and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and internal standards. This role requires strong leadership, budget oversight, program development, and the ability to operate under potentially stressful conditions while maintaining public safety and professional integrity.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED; associates level or equivalent college credit hours or above
- Five (5) years of Law Enforcement experience
- Two (2) years of experience performing duties at a level equivalent to Sheriff’s Sergeant
- Experience with law enforcement related administrative duties and grants
- At least one leadership class certification (POST/CSOC/LEEDA) or equivalent
- At least one instructor certification in a law enforcement related field
- Licenses: Colorado driver’s license
- Special Requirements: security clearance, deputization, ability to work irregular hours, firearms eligibility
Desired Qualifications
- Five (5) years of Law Enforcement experience
- Two (2) years of experience performing duties at a level equivalent to the classification of Sheriff’s Sergeant
- At least one leadership class certification (POST/CSOC/LEEDA) or equivalent
- At least one instructor certification in a law enforcement related field
- Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment
- Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation (including, but not limited to medical and psychological evaluations) and fingerprint check, which includes a credit check
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays, travel within and outside of the County
- POST certification, firearms orientation and range training, and requalify to carry all duty firearms
