Job Summary
Detention Services Officer responsible for maintaining the safety and security of detained juveniles (including those waived to the adult jurisdiction) and visitors within the Allen County Juvenile Center. Duties include supervising daily activities, processing new admissions, conducting searches, ensuring safety through regular counts and monitoring, escorting residents for meals, recreation, medical appointments, and educational services, and documenting incidents and communications. Requires effective written and verbal communication, ability to use restraint equipment and radios, coordination with medical staff, and adherence to PREA, CPR/First Aid/AED and other training. Shift differential applies; 40-hour weekly rotation. Must be 21+, possess a valid driver’s license, maintain confidentiality, and be able to perform physical tasks involved in detention facility operations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- one year experience in a maximum detention facility preferred
- supervisory skills to supervise juveniles and juveniles waived to adult jurisdictions
- strong written and verbal skills including technical writing
- ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related software
- ability to use handcuffs, shackles, restraint chairs and shields, AED devices and handheld radios
- must be 21 years of age or older
- must be able to physically perform essential functions
- must maintain confidentiality of all departmental records and information
- valid Driver’s License to provide transportation for residents and/or to operate county owned vehicles
