Job Summary
Monitor detainee activity in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas while coordinating movement, conducting counts, and responding to emergencies. Work various posts including control rooms, entrances, health services, perimeter security, and work details to provide security for program activities and supervise labor crews. Conduct searches for contraband, initiate disciplinary reports, and document incidents objectively in detention management software. Prepare shift reports, maintain daily logs, and ensure detainees receive prompt assistance for injuries or illnesses. Report maintenance needs and safety hazards promptly. Serve on special emergency teams as required. Maintain a professional, calm presence, communicate clearly via radio and face-to-face, and complete required training. Work any assigned shift, including overtime, based on management needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must meet all applicable state requirements for employment
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Ability to work overtime as required, including extended hours
- Ability to manage the physical and mental demands of the position and remain alert on any assigned shift
- Must demonstrate maturity, flexibility, and the ability to earn respect and maintain control in a structured environment
Desired Qualifications
- Prior Corrections or Detention experience
- College coursework or advanced training in corrections, behavioral sciences, or a related field
- Training in cultural diversity/sensitivity
- Valid state driver's license
