Job Summary
Casual on-call Detention Guards at RCMP detachment in Grand Forks monitor safety and well-being of persons in custody under RCMP supervision. Role involves frequent prisoner observation (including CCTV), assisting with prisoner searches, organizing meals and logs, maintaining cellblock cleanliness, securing personal effects, overseeing fire safety, dispensing approved medications under supervision, and performing other duties as required. Requires living within 60 minutes of the detachment and availability for on-call shifts (days, evenings, overnights). Demands ability to work independently, stay discreet, and interact professionally with others, plus completion of detention guard training and relevant certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Basic First Aid Certificate (Occupational First Aid level 1 or equivalent) or willingness to complete the course prior to being hired
- Ability to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance (RCMP Clearance can take 4 – 6 months)
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English
- Vision: RCMP-V4 standards (eyeglasses permitted)
- Mobility Standards: Able to use both hands, lift up to 20 kilograms, bend, climb stairs with no restrictions
- Willingness to undergo detention guard training including WHMIS training and refresher on a semi-annual basis
- Willingness to work on-call shifts including days, evenings and overnights
Additional Requirements
- Must be 19 years and older
- Must live within 60 minutes drive of the detachment
- Must be able to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance
