Job Summary
Monitor and control incarcerated inmates and civilian visitors at Polk County Sheriff's Office detention facilities while operating remote control panels, cell locks, and sally ports. Conduct inmate counts, patrol housing areas, escort visitors, and apply restraints when necessary. Verify intake information, fingerprint inmates, and collect DNA during booking procedures. Supervise inmate transport, recreation, and visits while maintaining security logs and inventorying weapons and ammunition. Prepare disciplinary reports, testify in court, and conduct facility tours to ensure compliance with safety standards and Florida Criminal Justice regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High School or GED
- Valid Florida driver's license
- State of Florida, Basic Recruit Certificate of Corrections Compliance after completion of training in accordance with the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission
- Successful completion of the Polk County Sheriff's Office Floor Training and Evaluation Program
- Dual certification required for K-9 assignment
- Prefer experience in corrections, security or social work fields
