Job Summary
Provide ready reference services, readers' advisory, and general information to patrons in person, via phone, email, and social media. Check out and check in library materials, collect fines, issue cards, and process cash register transactions with accurate bank deposits. Answer user questions, interpret library procedures, and monitor public areas during assigned shifts. Support library events, assist users with computing resources and hardware/software troubleshooting, and log unresolved technical issues. Perform clerical tasks such as pulling materials, preparing display content, and contributing to the website via a content management system. Work part-time shifts (15–20 hours/week) including evenings and weekends under the direction of Department Leads.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Six or more months of related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Age of 18 or older
- Strong commitment to excellent public service
- Helpful, friendly, energetic, and adaptable
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse public executing both verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Commitment to acknowledging and welcoming each Library patron utilizing AADL facilities as well as attending AADL events
- Experience with and comfort in using and troubleshooting computers, printers and photocopiers
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows protocol
- Ability to work standing up for extended periods of time
- Ability to move around as necessary while transitioning efficiently between tasks with continued attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team without direct supervision
- Interpersonal and judgment skills necessary to work effectively with Library users, staff and visitors
- Ability to complete detailed work accurately
- Minimum of 15 hours per week
- Maximum of 20 hours per week

Desired Qualifications
- Education beyond the high school level
- Successful experience working in a library or other public service/retail organization
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and major web browsers
- Work experience in libraries or familiarity with use of library catalogs and databases to locate materials
- Experience using a library automated system
- Understanding of the public library's many purposes including circulating materials and providing a variety of experiences to Library users
- Knowledge and enthusiasm about the features of the library's collections
- Experience and desire to work with Library users of all ages
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Work experience in serving the public
