Designer – Piping

Job Summary

Develop and maintain 3D piping models using CADWorx Plant, create equipment models, and generate isometrics from 3D models. Produce equipment and piping layout designs based on Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, then coordinate with engineering disciplines to ensure model integration and spatial accuracy. Prepare orthographic drawings, isometric details, and Bills of Materials to support fabrication and construction, while performing independent QA/QC reviews to verify compliance with codes such as ASME B31.3 and B31.4. Maintain revision control for Issued for Construction deliverables and respond to Requests for Information to ensure drawing accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in piping systems design
  • All qualified candidates will be required to complete an in-person, computer-based assessment
  • Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with AutoCAD
  • Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with CADWorx
  • Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with Navisworks
  • Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with Microsoft Office
  • Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to: ASME B31.3
  • Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to: ASME B31.4
  • Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to: ASME B31.8
  • Ability to independently research and interpret equipment data, vendor documentation, and technical references
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently shifts priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Must be available for Arlington or Houston, Texas

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with CADWorx Plant (2020 or later versions)
  • Experience with CADWorx Equipment (2020 or later versions)
  • Experience with CADWorx Isogen
  • Experience producing equipment and piping layout designs based on Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience with 3D model coordination activities, including clash detection, model input management, and interface resolution
  • Experience coordinating with stress and pipe support engineers, construction teams, and vendors during the development of piping designs
  • Experience assisting Discipline Engineers in the review of vendor equipment drawings
  • Experience preparing drawings, layouts and conceptual sketches to support construction activities, change orders, and project cost estimates
  • Experience compiling and maintaining project documentation, including status reports, punch lists, progress sketches, and material quantity calculations
  • Experience preparing orthographic drawings derived from 3D models in accordance with applicable industry and company drafting standards
  • Experience developing plans, sections, details and isometric drawings ensuring adequate views and detail
  • Experience utilizing and managing external reference (XREF) drawing files
  • Experience generating Bills of Materials (BOMs) from 3D models
  • Experience producing 2D detailed drawings and maintaining familiarity with drafting standards to prepare drawing packages for Issued for Approval (IFA), Issued for Bid (IFB), Issued for Construction (IFC), and As-Built deliverables
  • Experience applying established quality control procedures and checklists
  • Experience supporting design reviews, model reviews, and client meetings by preparing and revising piping-related project deliverables
  • Experience maintaining revision control and ensuring all updates are accurately captured and issued as construction-ready documentation
  • Experience researching, reviewing, and applying company drafting standards, client requirements, and applicable regulatory codes to all piping drawings
  • Experience performing independent QA/QC reviews of piping design and deliverables
  • Experience verifying that site-development drawings align with overall piping design intent and layout requirements
  • Experience supporting Professional Engineers during the design phase, including standards review, gathering calculation inputs, and providing drafting-related technical support
  • Experience coordinating piping drafting requirements with multi-discipline project teams
  • Experience reviewing drawings from other disciplines to confirm proper coordination and consistency with piping systems
  • Experience reviewing and responding to Request for Information (RFIs)
  • Experience reviewing third-party vendor drawings to ensure compatibility and proper integration with the intended piping design
