Job Summary

Develop detailed drawings and 3D models for complex engineering systems using Autodesk Inventor, including part assemblies, sectional views, and bills of materials. Perform engineering calculations to validate design decisions through stress, load, and fit/tolerance analysis while ensuring compliance with company standards and safety protocols. Generate work instructions, casting drawings, and reverse engineering documentation to support manufacturing and service teams. Manage multiple project deadlines by coordinating with vendors, shop personnel, and the design lead to deliver accurate, producible designs.

Required Qualifications

  • demonstrated knowledge of design and drafting techniques

  • Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling
  • ability to perform engineering calculations that support and validate design decisions
  • independent development of designs or adaptations
  • use of current manufacturing and business systems for cost, inventory, and purchasing information
  • compliance with all company policies, procedures, and processes
  • Participation in FET's Health, Safety, and Environment program
  • Technical college diploma in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related discipline
  • equivalent combination of education and hands-on mechanical design/engineering experience
  • 2+ years prior experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment
  • Hands-on Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling experience
  • Prior design experience using thin plate and sheet metal (3/16" and 1/4")
  • Fabrication experience

Desired Qualifications

  • demonstrated ability to perform and interpret engineering calculations (e.g., load, stress, dimensional, fit, and tolerance analysis) to support and validate design decisions
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, drawing conventions and revision control
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently on assigned tasks
  • 2+ years prior experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment preferred
  • Experience applying engineering calculations to support design work (stress, load, fit/tolerance) preferred
  • Fabrication experience considered an asset
