Job Summary
Designer I role responsible for creating formulations that meet customer specifications using established design rules and technology protocols. Works with senior designers, project coordinators, sales teams, and laboratory leadership to develop innovative solutions, document results, and support quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include creating product formulations, supporting product development, using design software and lab systems to document formulations and test results, operating lab equipment, communicating project risks and delays, collaborating with internal teams throughout the product lifecycle, building relationships with technical, quality, and commercial teams, identifying gaps to advance design protocols and testing methods, authoring technical reports, participating in training, and adhering to quality systems and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in product design, quality testing, technical laboratory work, or related roles; degree holders with limited experience will also be considered
- Laboratory experience in plastics, color, paints, inks, custom compounding, or similar industries preferred
- Ability to pass the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test used to detect color vision deficiency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Intermediate to advanced mathematical skills, including algebra and statistics
- Ability to learn color matching systems and product design software
- Occasional travel may be required
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Highly motivated and self-driven

- Ability to manage projects from inception through completion
