Job Summary

Draft and finalize civil engineering design plans, grading layouts, and details for projects including landfills, industrial sites, and utilities using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Analyze input sketches to determine design approaches, manage drawing set production from creation to modification, and review completed work products for quality. Mentor and supervise CADD technicians, assist with estimating level of effort, and collaborate with project teams to prepare design drawings. Drive vehicles to client or company sites as needed. This role supports Geosyntec's environmental engineering design projects across the U.S.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Drafting
  • minimum of five (5) years related experience in a professional civil engineering setting
  • equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position
  • Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years
  • Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and other large civil design projects
  • Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files
  • Experience with stormwater management design
  • Proficiency in the latest releases of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Map3D
  • Proficiency includes a strong understanding of Civil 3D Annotation styles and annotation tools, object and label styles, solid understanding of key objects such as Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Profile Views, Pipe Networks, Surface Analyses and Volume Calculations
  • Understanding of Feature Lines, Grading Groups, Assemblies, and Corridors
  • Working interoperability knowledge of ESRI ArcMap or equivalent GIS software with the above-mentioned software
  • Ability to work with mathematical fundamentals such as geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical engineering design situations
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team
  • Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment
  • Ability to effectively present information to project team and clients
  • Ability to supervise and communicate with subordinate staff
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • satisfactory driving record for business travel

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer
  • Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation
