Job Summary
The Design Manager - Defence Projects is responsible for coordinating design work and managing the development of technical documentation for medium to large scale Defence projects. Key responsibilities include leading project teams, delivering best-practice consulting services, client relationship management, proposal submissions, and mentoring staff. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, 10+ years of relevant experience, and a strong competency in risk management and team leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering discipline
- 10+ years of relevant project/design management experience with a focus on Defence and/or major redevelopment projects
- Highly competent in managing risk on projects including contractual and commercial risks
- Established processes for identifying, managing and monitoring risks to project outcomes
- Collaborative approach and ability to lead & build teams and rapport
- Knowledge and understanding of all engineering disciplines
- Experience in coordination of engineering services and architectural design
- Experience in resourcing and managing a wide range of professional disciplines and subcontractors
- Expertise in managing medium to large size project budgets and using financial tools successfully
- Experience in creating a project culture aligned to values
Desired Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (preferred), or willing to achieve status with WSP’s support.
