Design Geotechnical Engineer

Job Summary

Execute geo-structural engineering tasks including deep foundation design, retaining structure analysis, and limit equilibrium modeling. Perform engineering calculations and stability modeling for soil and rock slopes to support foundation, retaining wall, and civil construction projects. Conduct pre-construction geotechnical investigations, develop design documents, and manage field subcontractor activities such as drilling and testing. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to provide design solutions for large-scale energy infrastructure projects throughout North America. Perform occasional site visits and communicate findings to project management and construction personnel under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification with an interest in obtaining Professional Engineer licensure in one or multiple states
  • 1 to 4 years design experience in the geotechnical, structural, transmission, or substation engineering field as a intern, junior engineer, or as part of a co-op or collaboration program
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium size office setting
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs at times
  • Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces
  • Estimated as up to 25% of the work year travel

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
  • Familiarity with use and application of systems such as the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) rock quality scale, and other published geotechnical standards of practice
  • Familiarity with the use of the following computer software: LPILE, GROUP, FAD, GRLWeap, SHAFT, APILE and SLIDE, RS2, Plaxis, RISA, INVENTOR, or SPColumn
