Design Engineer

Job Summary
Create APQP and engineering documents to support design development from initial concept through start of production. Negotiate with customers on product design, styling, and engineering requirements while ensuring manufacturability and profitability. Provide design proposals for automotive fluid parts using 2D and 3D design tools, and complete benchmarking examinations of competitor components and emerging technology. Develop drawings, participate in Design FMEA, and execute fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans. Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, and designers to optimize designs for manufacturability and drive continuous improvement efforts. This role supports product development across Toyoda Gosei North America's Functional Components Engineering department, focusing on rubber, plastic, and safety systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
- 1 to 4 Years of experience in Engineering
- Strong understanding of general design and engineering release activities
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites 2016 or newer
- Previous experience with CATIA V5 or NX/UG
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
- Effective verbal, non-verbal, negotiation and written communication skills
- Ability to sustain a high degree of professionalism in interacting with internal and external customers
- Effective attention to detail, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
- Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking skills, problem solving and project scheduling skills
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
Desired Qualifications
- Strong understanding of various phases of APQP from initial concept through post-production
- Familiarity with automotive standards, concepts and practices
- Previous experience with plastic injection molded commodities
- Previous experience in Domestic or Japanese OEM Customer Portals
