Job Summary
Define requirements and develop technical solutions for drivetrain components and transmission systems used in wheel loaders, telehandlers, and backhoe loaders. Lead design and development from concept through production release, creating detailed engineering designs and supporting prototype, verification, testing, and validation activities. Assess design risks, evaluate alternative solutions, and make balanced engineering decisions considering performance, quality, durability, and cost while collaborating with manufacturing, suppliers, and global teams. This Design Engineer role supports New Product Introduction and current product programmes within Caterpillar's Drivetrain Engineering team, applying mechanical engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges across construction and mining equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Product Design & Development
- Extensive experience in Computer-Aided Design & Engineering (CAD)
- Extensive experience in Analytical Thinking
- Working knowledge of Managing Multiple Priorities
- Ability to translate customer, product and functional requirements into robust engineering solutions
- Ability to create, analyse and refine complex engineering designs using CAD tools
- Ability to apply engineering principles to develop drivetrain components, assemblies and systems
- Ability to produce accurate engineering documentation
- Ability to identify root causes of complex technical challenges
- Ability to evaluate risks and alternative solutions
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions that balance performance, quality, durability, cost and customer requirements
- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple engineering activities
- Ability to effectively balance competing priorities, project deliverables and business requirements
