Job Summary
Design Engineers are responsible for designing tooling that is sympathetic to the manufacture of composite components. They manage all CAD data, ensure files are up to date and stored correctly, and communicate with departments to discuss ideas and resolve tooling issues. Key duties include CAD work (surface modelling of patterns, moulds and fixtures), producing technical tooling drawings, comparing data files, modelling components to customer specifications, and liaising with suppliers for quotes. They will develop departmental drawings/manuals, specify BoM items, and implement process changes related to tooling. Strong CATIA skills, experience in tooling design, GD&T knowledge, and a solid understanding of composite manufacture are required, along with proficient IT and communication skills to support project goals with the Projects department and external suppliers.
Required Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of CATIA
- Experience in component or tooling design
- Understand technical drawings, ideally laminate drawings too
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Good understanding of composite manufacture
- A flexible approach and strong time management / prioritizing skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
