Design Engineer

Job Summary
Create and maintain 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, performing engineering calculations and analysis with tools like Simulink, MathCAD, and ANSYS. Apply GD&T and engineering standards to produce robust, manufacturable designs, including documentation, reports, and technical submissions. Review customer specifications to translate requirements into engineering solutions, support prototype design and testing, and collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality teams to resolve production issues. Deliver assigned work to agreed timescales while participating in technical reviews and maintaining accurate engineering records. Support existing products through design improvements and lifecycle management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Demonstrable experience in producing engineering designs, calculations and technical documentation
- Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform engineering calculations
- Sound understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
- A proactive approach, strong technical skills and a commitment to engineering excellence
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, self-motivated and willing to take ownership of assigned work
Desired Qualifications
- Experience within a mechanical design engineering environment
- Experience in the design and manufacture of pressure equipment
- Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience within the UK defence or naval sector (BPSS clearance or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with valves, pressure control or fluid system products
- Knowledge of compressible fluid flow, high-pressure gas systems and pressure control products
- Understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience of working within a regulated manufacturing or engineering environment
