Job Summary
Design Engineer focused on aerospace and defense products who drives part design and redesign across propulsion, thermal management, and fluid systems, leveraging additive manufacturing to rethink geometries and performance. The role requires evaluating design concepts with strong command of materials, tolerances, thermal/structural behavior, and production considerations; collaborating with internal teams and customer engineering groups to align on requirements; and contributing to shape Freeform's product and technology roadmap. A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years in a hands-on engineering role in aerospace/defense are required. The position is based in Hawthorne, CA with full-time onsite presence. Preferred familiarity with metal 3D printing/DFAM and strong design-for-manufacturing instincts are valued. Compensation includes a wide salary range ($120k-$185k) plus relocation assistance and significant stock options.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of experience in a hands-on engineering role within aerospace, defense, or a closely related high-performance industry
- Experience designing or analyzing propulsion systems, thermal systems, fluid systems, turbomachinery, or high-performance structural components
- Systems-level understanding of complex mechanical hardware and how components function within larger assemblies
