Job Summary
Prepare propulsion engineering specifications, reports, and test specifications while evaluating carbuilder designs and manufacturer drawings. Witness equipment and vehicle testing, including First Article Inspections, and review design packages from suppliers. Assist with preparing technical and cost proposals for new work and change orders for existing projects. Interface with railway clients and internal departments to support design reviews and site commissioning tests. Some travel is required approximately 25% of the time for factory tests and meetings.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with propulsion systems in the transit/railroad industry
- Experience designing rail vehicle propulsion systems or major subcomponents
- ABET accredited four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
- Strong familiarity with propulsion system components including AC traction motors, power converters, power transformers and other related high voltage electrical equipment, power collection equipment etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with auxiliary power converters
- Valid Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineering (PE), or international equivalent
