Job Summary
Deputy Sheriff DS 1-2 responsible for escorting and transporting Persons in Custody (PICs), providing court security, handling jury management, and serving court orders. Roles include safe transport of detainees to correctional facilities and other agencies, maintaining order in court, safeguarding government vehicles/equipment, and generating factual reports. Preferred qualifications include completion of a recognized law enforcement training program or a college diploma/degree, a valid unrestricted driver’s license, strong verbal/written communication, and computer literacy; assets include training in Use of Force, Crisis Intervention and De-escalation, and potentially CEW training, defensive driving, and knowledge of criminal code and courthouse operations. The position is term-based with potential for travel, potential for overtime, and requires the ability to work in high-stress, security-focused environments.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized law enforcement training program or relevant college/university diploma/degree
- High school completion and an equivalent combination of training and experience in a relevant environment (policing, sheriffs, law enforcement, military, corrections, security) may be acceptable
- A valid unrestricted driver’s licence
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy (email, word processing, spreadsheets)
