Job Summary
The Deputy Human Resources Manager will oversee HR operations for Mercy Corps in Yobe State, Nigeria, working closely with the HR Lead to achieve program objectives through effective recruitment, remuneration, and staff development. Responsibilities include implementing HR systems, managing recruitment in compliance with local laws, supporting employee onboarding, and ensuring adherence to performance management systems. The role involves interpreting HR policies, facilitating employee wellbeing initiatives, and maintaining HR compliance with organizational standards. The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills, extensive HR experience in the INGO sector, and the ability to promote a positive work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, social sciences, or related fields
- Membership of an HR professional body with certification
- Requires National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or exemption
- At least six (6) years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in the INGO sector
- In-depth knowledge of Nigeria's labor law
- Experience in capacity building and frameworks for staff development
- Strong presentation and communication skills in English
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Knowledge of donor regulations (DOS, EU, FCDO)
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa is a plus
