Deputy General Counsel

Job Summary
Deputy General Counsel will serve as a senior legal leader and strategic business partner, owning and scaling Harbor's global legal function to support a fast-growing, sales-driven organization with a PE-backed, globally expanding footprint. The role leads across contracts, employment, litigation, risk, compliance, and M&A, partnering with the CEO, Board, and leadership to drive business outcomes while building scalable processes, data-driven KPIs, and governance frameworks. This is a remote position that can be worked anywhere in the United States, with a preference for candidates in Chicago. The DGC will oversee high-volume contracting, provide strategic guidance on global employment matters, manage litigation and enterprise risk, drive M&A initiatives, ensure regulatory and data privacy compliance, and serve as a board-ready advisor in collaboration with cross-functional teams including Finance, Sales, and HR.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of legal experience including a mix of law firm and in-house roles
- 3–5+ years in a senior in-house leadership role (GC, Deputy GC, or SVP Legal) preferably in PE- or late-stage VC-backed companies
- full ownership of a legal function, including team leadership and operational buildout
- extensive experience in high-volume commercial contracting within a sales-driven organization (ideally tech-enabled services, software, or SaaS)
- strong experience in employment law, disputes, and litigation management including oversight of outside counsel
- proven ability to build scalable legal infrastructure in low-process or high-growth environments
- experience advising senior executives and presenting to Boards of Directors
- track record as a cross-functional operator partnering with Sales, Finance, HR, and executive teams
