Job Summary
The Deputy Fire Chief (Operations) role provides executive-level management support to the Fire Chief, overseeing either operational or administrative functions of Garner Fire-Rescue. Responsibilities include assisting with departmental management, directing daily operations, coaching senior command staff, budgeting and fiscal oversight, ensuring accreditation standards, coordinating multi-agency responses, serving as Public Information Officer during incidents, and leading organizational performance and policy implementation efforts. Requires a Bachelor's degree in fire science or related field and at least 10 years of firefighting experience with supervisory responsibilities, NC driver’s license, EMT-B, advanced fire service and ICS/NIMS certifications, and instructor credentials. The full salary range is $104,199–$158,770; starting salary based on skills and qualifications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in fire science or a related field
- Ten (10) years of broad and extensive experience in all major phases of professional firefighting
- (4) years of administrative/supervisory experience at a supervisory level OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Driver’s License in the State of North Carolina
- Firefighter Level I and II Certification
- NC EMT-B
- Hazardous Materials Level I
- Technical Rescue-General
- Technical Rescue-Vehicle
- NC Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I
- NC Fire Officer I and II
- NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training
