Job Summary
Deputy Editor for Reader’s Digest — oversee top-editing of the flagship magazine, drive cross-surface content projects, collaborate with marketing/advertising on branded/native initiatives, and mentor editors. Responsibilities include top-editing all copy, coordinating with Editorial Operations for timely delivery to print, assigning freelance writing, liaising with ad/marketing for partnership opportunities, collaborating with Art/Creative teams on features, and driving brand-wide franchise projects. Requires senior-level editorial leadership, strong editorial storytelling, familiarity with InCopy/InDesign and Google Analytics, comfort with digital and social content production, and a track record of delivering high-quality content on deadline.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or Communications
- 10+ years of experience in editorial roles
- Experience copy editing and/or top editing reported stories for a trusted journalistic outlet
- An organized, thorough and deadline-oriented approach to working with an ability to recognize when a content product or experience is ready to move forward
- Experience with content production tools such as InCopy/InDesign, as well as using analytics reports from platforms such as Google Analytics to measure the impact of content
- Experience in the realm of video and social content production. An understanding of the workback and editing needs for custom shoots
