Job Summary
Lead embedded audience strategy for key coverage pillars including News & Politics, Business, and Sports, partnering with desk editors to identify opportunities and set performance goals. Develop shared frameworks that help desks evaluate metrics and guide experimentation across newsletters, push notifications, and in-app messaging. Oversee the portfolio-level strategy for over 30 weekly newsletters, evaluating proposals, leading format and segmentation tests, and maintaining editorial quality with newsroom partners. Coach embedded editors on strategic planning and data interpretation while building consistent testing and learning practices. Serve as a senior thought partner to the Head of Audience Strategy to translate priorities into measurable newsroom-wide impact.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- A minimum 5 of years of significant experience in newsletter strategy, audience development, digital strategy, newsroom audience roles, lifecycle marketing or related fields
- A minimum of 2 years of experience leading or managing teams
- Strong understanding of audience analytics, performance metrics and methodology in gleaning actionable insight from data
- Experience conducting audience research to guide editorial and distribution decision
- Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TM, CPT, OPT, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a subscription-based media organization
- Experience managing an email or audience product portfolio
- Experience running structured testing and experimentation programs
- Familiarity with homepage curation in a fast-paced newsroom
- Experience working with email service providers (Sailthru or similar platforms preferred)
