Job Summary
Deputy Director, People Operations leading the global HR and operations function for a senior-scale, geographically dispersed nonprofit. You will set strategic direction for attracting, leveling, compensating, and retaining a globally distributed workforce; redesign pay equity structures; modernize leveling and performance management; and build hiring and compliance infrastructure for Pan-African and Asian expansion. Responsibilities span global pay equity development, policy design, international recruitment strategy, policy development for global operations, and overseeing payroll, benefits, HRIS, and employee experience programs. The role requires senior leadership, systems thinking, cross-cultural collaboration, and data-driven decision-making to advance equity and compliance across multiple countries. Remote with a preference for Africa; initial 12-month contract; salary range $50,000–$61,818 USD annually (gross), regionally benchmarked, payable in local currency.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in people operations, HR, or talent management, including senior or leadership roles
- Experience leading people operations and compliance work at an INGO, especially with a substantial footprint in Africa
- Demonstrated experience designing or implementing compensation structures, salary bands, or pay frameworks across multiple countries and continents
- Working knowledge of international employment compliance and multi-country employment models (direct employment, Employer of Record, contractor engagement)
- Experience supervising and developing staff across distributed, multicultural teams
- Experience crafting policies for an INGO
- Fluency in written and spoken English
