Job Summary

Deputy Director overseeing the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program for the NYC Department of Transportation. Ensures compliance with federal regulations and the NYC DOT policy in administering drug and alcohol tests for approximately 2,700 marine and CDL employees to enforce a zero-tolerance policy. Supervises the Drug and Alcohol Testing Coordinator and Testing Assistant, serves as the Designated Employer Representative (DER), immediately removes from safety-sensitive duties anyone with a confirmed positive test, and enforces fitness-for-duty requirements. Also acts as back-up supervisor to the unit Director and performs related duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in the first item; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in the first item; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in the first item. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience at a rate as described (30 semester credits for 6 months up to 3.5 years)
