Job Summary

Deputy Design Coordinator responsible for leading design management across internal and external engineering teams, coordinating design activities between estimating, construction, external consultants, and clients; ensuring technical solutions minimize quantities and construction time while meeting all technical requirements; conducting due diligence and quality control of sub-consultant and client designs; monitoring design progress and deadlines; defending solutions with stakeholders to secure approvals; identifying and mitigating technical risks; acting as the prime contact to resolve design/engineering issues; coordinating with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to address design and construction topics; initiating and designing projects/calculations as needed; reviewing revisions to design provisions; developing plans/criteria or analyses required for the design effort; reviewing drawings/submittals for accuracy; ensuring plans and specifications conform to standards; preparing and monitoring design budgets and schedules; interfacing with estimating and construction teams; participating in meetings with owners, developers, partners, and subcontractors; producing periodic Design Progress Reports; reporting to the Design Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one state (ability to obtain in Pennsylvania)
  • 10 years of related work experience with at least two projects bigger than $100M
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA and PennDOT regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • CAD and other PC software packages typically used in engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and construction partners
  • DBIA knowledge is highly valuable
  • Experience with PennDOT related projects and large-scale Design-Build/CMAR/CM/DB projects is highly valuable
  • On-site and field experience on civil projects preferred
  • Scheduling software knowledge (Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6) preferred
