Deputy Department Manager - Commissioning

Job Summary

Coordinate the entire commissioning team to execute projects while managing business development to expand the client base. Lead HVAC and electrical commissioning services, including designing testing procedures, performing field inspections, and creating comprehensive closeout documents. Review air and water test and balance reports, identify deficiencies, and communicate effectively with clients and construction trades. Read building plans, manipulate HVAC control systems, and work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts. Visit client facilities to gather data and travel approximately 50% of the time to support diverse markets across the Eastern United States. Report directly to the Commissioning Department Manager on strategic decisions for team growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and commissioning - building systems
  • Proven commissioning experience
  • Strong leadership and business development capabilities
  • HVAC sequence of operation knowledge and capable of performing design review of Sequence of operation and creating mechanical system testing procedures and testing same in the field
  • Must have knowledge of manipulating, adjusting, setup and testing HVAC controls systems such as JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens, etc.
  • Must have complete working knowledge of HVAC chilled water and DX systems including design, operation and testing of: Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHU, RTU, ERU, VAVs, exhaust, FCU, etc.
  • Review air and water test and balance process, review a TAB report and identify issues
  • Visit client facilities and gather necessary data to test systems
  • Create system installation and testing documents
  • Be familiar with OSHA safety requirements and ability to identify deficiencies
  • Be familiar with building codes and ability to make intuitive decisions related to such
  • Read and understand building plans and specifications
  • Work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts
  • Effectively communicate with all clients, construction trades, and design professionals
  • Have a high aptitude for abstract reasoning, assertiveness, thoroughness and be very detail oriented
  • Work flexible hours and work in hot or cold environments
  • Climb stairs, ladders, and lift trucks. Do moderate lifting
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Travel approximately 50% of the time

Desired Qualifications

  • Commissioning process certification preferred or willingness to acquire within the first 6 months
  • Knowledge in multiple control systems a plus
  • Business development experience a plus
  • Professional Engineering License a plus or ability to acquire
