Deputy Coroner (Contract)

Job Summary
On-call Deputy Coroner contractor handling death investigations and related duties. Responsibilities include scene response, identification and documentation of decedents, death certification, coordination with medical and legal agencies, and preparation of case files. Requires professionalism, discretion, and availability to respond outside normal hours. Must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel within the county and surrounding areas. Qualifications include a High School Diploma, valid Georgia driver’s license, ability to obtain certification from the Georgia Coroners Training Council, completion of the Georgia Police Academy Basic Training course, and 24 hours of annual continuing training. This role operates under a 1-year contract with potential renewal and may involve evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid Georgia driver’s license
- Ability to obtain certification by the Georgia Coroners Training Council
- Completion of Basic Training course by the Georgia Police Academy
- Annual continuing training: 24 hours
- Willingness to respond outside standard hours
- Ability to perform moderate physical work and lift 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to communicate effectively with law enforcement, medical personnel, funeral homes, and families
- Accurate documentation and report writing skills
