Job Summary
Deputy Chief Engineer, Spacecraft leads vehicle-level architecture and risk management for Firefly’s launch vehicle and spacecraft programs. Responsibilities include conducting system-level trades, optimizing mass, delta-V, power, and data budgets, chairing vehicle-level design and milestone reviews, ensuring robust engineering rationale, and serving as the primary technical authority across the full mission lifecycle. The role involves collaborating with production, integration, QA, business development, and program management, providing real-time technical support during missions, and representing Firefly at reviews, conferences, and investor meetings. Travel to production/test facilities north of Cedar Park, Briggs, TX is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years hands-on engineering experience in design, analysis, test, or operations of launch vehicle and/or spacecraft systems
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals including orbital mechanics
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to work with a team and follow instructions
- U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required authorizations under ITAR
Additional Requirements
- TS/SCI security clearance or ability to obtain one
- ITAR compliance requirements for eligibility to work on government/space technology programs
