Department Manager - Supplier Quality Engineering

Job Summary
Lead and develop the SQE organization (50–100 FTE) to deliver predictable supplier quality improvements and industrialization readiness for New Product Introductions across the supplier ecosystem. Drive governance, documentation, audits, and cross-functional interfaces with Supply Chain & Quality, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement, and Supplier Account Teams to improve supplier performance, cost of poor quality, and lead-time. Build domain expertise and coordinate with MDUs, SATs, and external partners; standardize ways of working across SQE domains to enable scalable quality outcomes. Responsibilities include early supplier involvement in design-to-release for volume manufacturing, driving issue resolution (yield/quality) through structured problem solving, and ensuring smooth transfer to the QSM team; require strong leadership, communication, and Six Sigma/quality-management acumen. On-site in Wilton, CT, with occasional travel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, etc.) or equivalent experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in quality/engineering roles
- At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports
- Experience with quality management tools (DMAIC, FMEA, SPC, MSA, 5xWhy, 8D)
- Proven track record in management within a technical high-tech environment
- Understanding of industrialization processes
- Strong English communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to balance multiple stakeholders in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment
- Process-minded with practical approach
- Willingness for occasional travel to suppliers
- Ability to work independently or in a team and follow through with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to establish cooperative relationships with coworkers and customers
- Compliance mindset with adherence to procedures and timelines
- Experience with risk assessment and problem-solving in manufacturing/quality contexts
