Job Summary
Department Assistant of Public Relations, Part-Time at the library. Supports promotion of the library, its holdings, services and programs to diverse audiences across multiple media; assists in preparing, producing and disseminating in-house promotional materials. Responsible for planning/setup/takedown of library/gallery displays, operating and maintaining the printing press/Duplo for in-house forms, banners and flyers; prepares print orders and handles post-production tasks (cutting, folding, collating, stapling, binding). Operates other print equipment (poster maker, laminator); creates and installs library signage and manages copier inventory. Maintains departmental files, photographs library events, and supports additional duties as assigned. Requires thorough knowledge of print production and good writing/editing ability to communicate library resources and activities.
Required Qualifications
- Education, Experience, and Training
- High School graduate or equivalence. Bachelor’s degree in public relations or journalism preferred.
- Working knowledge of computers and one year of experience in the field of writing is preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of working with graphics.
- Ability to write and edit copy about library resources and activities.
- Ability to coordinate exhibits and displays with library specific themes.
- Ability to effectively read and understand information contained in procedure manuals, reports, etc.
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing trends in library services and technology
- Skilled in communicating both orally and in writing. Using a computer to create and revise documents. Organizing information and attention to detail. Knowledge of print production and post-production processes desirable.
