Job Summary
Provide comprehensive routine dental care services to eligible recipients while guiding dental staff in a professional, compassionate environment. Establish and maintain contact with patients and families to ensure participation in regular prevention programs and modify treatment plans to achieve optimal health. Document all care in the electronic health record and communicate by telephone or written correspondence as necessary. Recommend preventative maintenance appropriate for age and risk factors, discuss lifestyle changes for well-being, and provide patient and family health education. Participate in quality assurance review activities, maintain certification and licensure, and attend continuing education programs. May supervise staff when the Chief Dental Officer is unavailable and provide input for productivity, utilization rates, and service reimbursement. Work in conjunction with hygienists, medical teams, and WIC to support dental access for children.
Required Qualifications
- DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Certificate from an accredited General Practice residency program OR 2 years of responsible experience in the profession
- Minimum of two (2) years of directly related work experience
- Knowledge of theories, principles and application as necessary to develop and implement a full service dental care program
- Knowledge of professional dental care ethics and principles
- Knowledge of practices and procedures required to assess the needs of a wide range of patients in the community
- Knowledge of principles of effective supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to deal tactfully and patiently with patients
- Ability to maintain patient charts and records
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, pharmacies, laboratories, other departments and employees
- Ability to effectively coach employees toward maximum performance
- Ability to provide input to develop, write and evaluate dental care policies and procedures
- Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Normal audio and visual acuity
- Local, Statewide, and out-of-state travel may be required
