Job Summary
Pour impressions, make bite registrations, and prepare cases for try-ins. Fabricate custom trays, base plates, bite rims, and perform final waxing. Construct models of patients' mouths and create acrylic dentures while maintaining correct vertical dimension. Make and repair dental appliances, including bending wrought wire to contour tooth forms. Perform waxing, flasking, packing, processing, and finishing dentures. Set up and contour artificial teeth for full and partial dentures, and set up and clean operatories. Seat patients and prepare them for procedures. Maintain order and cleanliness of the lab, sterilize handpieces and equipment, and meet quality standards regarding safety and health protocols. Maintain a log of cases sent to outside laboratories.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least two years' experience in dental prosthetics
- Thorough working knowledge of laboratory materials, tools, and equipment
- High degree of skill in the use of laboratory materials, tools, and equipment
- Knowledge of tooth form and anatomy
- Ability to set teeth in various forms
- Knowledge of all materials used to construct appliances
- Skill in the use of materials to construct appliances
- Ability to visualize anatomical, functional, spatial, and esthetic relationship of all stages of construction
- Ability to understand and comply with dentist prescription in setting up denture teeth
- Ability to complete case fabrication to meet dentist-patient needs
- Knowledge of use of articulators
- Ability to simulate jaw movements
- Ability to place dentures in proper relationship to each other
- Ability to simulate natural teeth in setting up denture teeth
- Knowledge to accomplish work with a minimal amount of technical consultation
- A high degree of manual skill
- Ability to walk, bend, and reach to operate equipment
- Ability to lift moderately heavy packages such as dental cement, plaster, and denture materials
- Regular attendance
