Job Summary
Perform dental prophylaxis, remove tartar and plaque, apply fluoride, and take x-rays for incarcerated patients. Assist the dentist with procedures, instruments, and documentation while triaging sick calls, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records. Complete periodontal charting, perform oral cancer screenings, and provide individualized oral hygiene and post-operative instructions. Sterilize equipment, develop radiographs, and use TechCareTM applications to document services. Monitor oral health conditions and explain procedures to patients in a secure correctional environment.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program
- Valid dental hygiene license in state
- Dental radiology certification
- Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
- Strong oral hygiene knowledge
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a correctional environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ability to pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
