Job Summary
Facilitate positive patient experiences and efficient flow by greeting patients, collecting health histories, and assisting dentists before, during, and after procedures. Prepare operatory setups, complete dental x-rays, and support the laboratory with model pouring and trimming. Perform direct patient care, instruct families on oral health, and maintain sterile instruments and equipment inventory. Submit billing information and complete patient records in compliance with regulations. Provide backup support to front desk staff as needed. This role typically covers Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM at the University Dental Clinic, with occasional shifts at other PHC clinics in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown. Candidates with Expanded Functions Level I training may qualify for higher pay.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of accredited dental assisting program or equivalent training meeting Iowa Dental Board requirements
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn different software and database systems
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrates professionalism with ability to remain calm in all situations and show empathy
- Current QDA Registration through the Iowa Dental Board
- Mandatory Reporter Training: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse recognized by the Iowa
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certification
- Must be obtained during introductory period if not current
- Tuesday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM
- 40 hours per week
Desired Qualifications
- Candidates with Expanded Functions Level I training may be considered for this position and are eligible for a higher pay range
