Job Summary
Provide assistance in complex restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment phases. Receive and schedule patients, obtain medical histories, and chart examination and treatment information. Sterilize instruments, prepare surgical trays, and maintain dental equipment in a clean, operative condition. Assist the dentist chairside by performing intra-oral procedures, taking impressions, removing sutures, and managing rubber dams, matrix bands, and wedges. Relay dentist instructions to patients for post-treatment care and instruct them on proper dental techniques and appliance care. Operate dental X-ray equipment for intra and extra oral radiographs, maintain and repair the equipment, pour and trim models from impressions, and construct custom impression trays. Maintain recurring reports related to dental activities.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate or Associate Degree
- Successful completion of a Certificate or Associate Degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA)
- 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months
- Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school
- Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course
- 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic
- Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education
- Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months
- Certified in radiography
- Six months of experience as a Dental Assistant after graduation
