Job Summary
Coordinate dental services and assist dentists with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and triage within the Pima County Detention Center. Provide instruments, materials, retraction, and suction during treatments while maintaining patient dental records and explaining oral hygiene practices. Sterilize and disinfect equipment, ensure the dental suite is clean and stocked, and take or develop x-rays to support the dental laboratory function. Maintain all dental equipment in good working order and adhere to correctional healthcare policies and a code of conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a one or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
- Maintain the proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
- Must be able to work in a controlled environment where security is top priority
