Job Summary

Prepare instrument trays and dental materials, assist dentists during routine and emergency procedures, and record treatment details in patient charts. Review health histories and dental charts prior to treatment, educate patients on oral hygiene, and communicate postoperative instructions. Monitor inventory levels, submit supply requests, and clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments to maintain a professional clinical environment. Assist with internal audits and quality improvement initiatives while navigating the NextGen EDR system and Microsoft Office suite. This role supports the delivery of high-quality dental care at a Federally Qualified Health Center serving underserved populations in North Florida.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be organized, a self-starter and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Expected to travel and cover other sites during dental assistant absences
  • Must be able to read and interpret written dental instructions
  • Must know how to process radiographs
  • Must know how to expose dental radiographs
  • Must know how to efficiently operate NextGen EDR
  • Must be able to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word, Excel and Teams
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Dental Assistant program with Expanded Functions
  • Current BLS (basic life support) Certification
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to view a computer monitor for long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend
  • Must be able to stretch / reach
  • Must be able to walk short distances
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to operate office equipment (computer, fax machines, telephones and copy machines)
  • Must be able to read forms / instructions / patients charts
  • Must be able to communicate well to people of various ages, educational levels, cultural backgrounds in person or by telephone
  • Must be able to utilize universal precaution in clinical or exposure situations as prescribed by federal state, and local guidelines and /or laws
