Job Summary
Assist dental providers with chair-side duties using four-handed dentistry across Diagnostic, Preventative, Restorative, Endodontics, Periodontics, Oral Surgery, Prosthodontic, and Orthodontics as allowed by the Washington Dental Practice Act. Escort and welcome patients, provide pre/post-instruction, communicate delays to the Lead Dental Assistant and provider, schedule patients in Dentrix and register in Allscripts PM, and perform thorough charting using S.O.A.P. or PARTS. Maintain proper sterilization methods and OSHA-compliant practices; obtain vital signs and assist with patient education. Participate in training of new staff, inventory and ordering of dental supplies, and contribute to Quality Improvement activities within the Dental Department. The role may include temporary assignments at other dental sites and may require travel. The position emphasizes a mission-driven patient-centered approach, infection control, and adherence to organizational values. The role is hourly and part-time with benefits for eligible staff.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Completion of a formal Dental Assistant program at a college/technical institute or equivalent
- Registered with the Washington State Department of Health and keep registration current annually
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current BLS CPR
- TB test annually
- Annual influenza vaccine requirement (with medical/religious exemption options)
- Ability to read and write in English; effective communication with patients and staff
- Ability to read and interpret common dental materials; basic math for discounts, proportions, percentages
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Must pass pre-hire competency test at 80% before transfer or hire
- Probationary competency evaluation process including probationary period with evaluations
- Background check conducted by Washington State Patrol
- Ability to work in a healthcare setting with infection control and OSHA standards
- Ability to perform duties with attention to patient confidentiality and safety
- Travel may be required within clinic locations
- A valid state license or registration as a Dental Assistant (WA) when applicable
