Job Summary
Coordinate dental services and assist the Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and supporting the function of the dental department. Assist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction, or suction while ensuring all equipment is properly maintained, sterilized, and the suite is clean and stocked. Manage patient records, triage, sick calls, and scheduling appointments; explain procedures and oral hygiene practices. Take and develop x-rays and assist with dental laboratory functions. Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality while adhering to correctional healthcare policies. This role involves working alongside correctional officers in a secure environment serving incarcerated individuals with complex medical needs.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED certificate
- proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant in WY
- active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
- ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- ability to stand for long periods
- ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
- ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- ability to pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
