Job Summary
Coordinate dental services and assist the Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, and documentation while ensuring the dental suite remains clean and well-stocked. Assist during treatments by providing instruments, materials, retraction, or suction, and sterilize and disinfect all equipment and tools. Manage patient records, triage, sick calls, and scheduling appointments, while explaining procedures and oral hygiene practices to incarcerated individuals. Take and develop x-rays and support the dental laboratory function. Maintain equipment in good working order and uphold confidentiality and correctional healthcare policies.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED certificate
- proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant in WY
- active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
- ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- ability to pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- ability to stand for long periods
- ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
