Job Summary
Operate large specialty demolition excavators, including Ultra High Reach machines exceeding 75 feet, while following OSHA safety procedures and daily protocols. Perform routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs, and assist in training entry-level employees. Identify exposed underground and overhead utilities, review trenching requirements with superintendents, and report hazards or operational issues to project management. Travel to additional demolition sites throughout the Midwest after project completion. Requires 1+ year of Ultra High Reach experience, 5+ years in specialty demolition, and OSHA 10 certification. Work 8–12-hour days Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and flexibility for evenings. Union-based role with competitive wages and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience operating Ultra High Reach equipment (75'+)
- Experience with demolition tools such as steel shear, processors, and breakers
- Strong commitment to safety and quality work
- Willingness to travel to various job sites across the Midwest
- Five years+ experience operating specialty demolition excavators
- At least five years' industrial demolition experience preferred but not required
- Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles
- Ability to drive and operate heavy equipment under varying working conditions
- OSHA 10 certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Ability to follow applicable safety precautions
- Ability to view and understand Veit's safety training video
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees, external vendors and other business associates
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to be punctual and dependable
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends
- Must be flexible regarding work hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Union affiliation or willingness to take the necessary steps to join the union
- Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
