Job Summary

Defense Counsel in the Non-Capital Trial Division for Cleveland County, responsible for representing indigent individuals in state court at the trial level across felony, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, traffic and wildlife cases. Provides competent legal advice and zealous advocacy at every phase of the criminal trial process. Responsibilities include case management, maintaining complete files, communicating with clients and their families, conducting independent investigations, preparing for trial with pretrial motions and plea negotiations, performing legal research for briefs, handling jury selection, preserving legal error for appellate review, serving as Co-Counsel as assigned, and traveling as needed. Requires a Juris Doctorate and active Oklahoma State Bar membership; Travel to fulfill duties. Skills include critical thinking, legal research and writing, communication, use of Westlaw/LexisNexis, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • active membership and good standing with the State Bar of Oklahoma, or eligibility for admission
  • willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position
