Job Summary
Conduct field studies on disease transmission in mule and whitetail deer in Northern Colorado by capturing animals via clover traps, drop nets, and darting. Collect biological samples, manage ear tags and collars, and perform necropsies to determine mortality causes. Support laboratory analyses and prepare samples while maintaining landowner relations and volunteer supervision. Check traps daily during winter and early spring, then focus on recapturing bucks in cool mornings and evenings during summer. Manage supplies, equipment, and trap maintenance throughout the irregular seasonal schedule.
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA in Natural Resources or a related field
- 1+ years of wildlife experience; including with ground darting deer
- Extensive animal capture experience using dart guns
- Locating animals via vhf telemetry receiver and antenna
- Knowledge of northern Colorado wild deer ranges and tendencies
- Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date
- Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. by the proposed start date
- Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for all new hires)
- Must be available for irregular work hours that vary by season
- Must be available for daily trap checking during winter and early spring
- Must be available for capturing and recapturing bucks in early mornings and cool evenings during late spring and summer
- Must be available for lab support and lab work during summer
- Must be able to work alone and in groups
- Must be organized, meticulous, and confident
